Obituary for Mary Hryhorchuk (Starchuk)

Print
With heavy hearts the family of Mary Hryhorchuk late of Prince Albert, SK, announce her passing on January 6, 2019 at the age of 93 at Mont St. Josephs nursing home in Prince Albert. Mary was born on April 26, 1925 to Mike and Verna Starchuk of Strong Pine. She was the eldest of 7 children.
In 1944, she married Peter Hryhorchuk. They lived and farmed in Strong Pine until they moved to Meath Park in 1977. They raised 4 children – Patricia, Irene, Peter and Jeannie. Mary worked as a janitor at the Meath Park school for about 10 years. She approached this job with the same dedication and hard work as she did on the farm. She was adored by students and staff. She belonged to the senior’s club in Meath Park and was a very social person. She had time and a friendly smile for everyone she met.
Her favorite things to do were: playing cards, hockey nights in Canada, knitting, crocheting and cooking. Later she enjoyed playing on the floor with her great grandchildren. She moved to Prince Albert in 2003 and eventually to Kopera care home and Mont St. Josephs nursing home as her health declined and dementia progressed.
She is survived by her children: Patricia (Waren) Cousin and their children: Michelle (Craig) Lindsy and their children: Calvin, Addison and Daxon; and Natalie (Mark) Pickering and their son: Caden Pickering.
Irene (Ronnie) Lysyk and their children: Terence (Pattie) Lysyk and their child: Mia Lysyk. Jody (Tracy) Lysyk and their children: Eric and Charlotte Lysyk; and Cheryl Lysyk.
Peter (Cathy) Hryhorchuk and their children: Daniel and Paul (Ashley) Hryhorchuk and their son: Kieran Hryhorchuk. And Jeannie Harrison.
Her sisters: Ann Rutkowski, Rose Slonki and Sophie Hanson; and her brother: William (Audrey) Starchuk.
She is predeceased by her husband of 59 years: Peter Hryhorchuk; her parents: Mike and Verna Starchuk; her brothers: Steve (Ann) and Tony (Edith) Starchuk; her brothers-in-law: Mike Rutkowski and Joe Slonski.
We offer a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Mont St. Josephs for the excellent, compassionate and loving care provided to our mother in the last 1 ½ years. In her ever-increasing dementia, she didn’t lose her ability to communicate and socialize, making everyone laugh at her sense of humor. A Funeral Service will take place Friday January 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel at 130 – 9th Street East in Prince Albert, SK. A lunch will follow at Plaza 88 located at 888 Central Avenue in Prince Albert, SK. A private internment will be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Prince Albert, SK. In lieu of tributes donations may be made to the “Mont St. Joseph Foundation”, 777 28th Street East, Prince Albert, SK.
