Obituary for Donald Garth McGregor

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald Garth MacGregor, late of Prince Albert, SK with his brother and sisters by his side on March 6, 2023, at the age of 87.
Garth was born on June 24th, 1935 in Davidson, SK, then moved with the family to the St. Catherines District of Prince Albert, SK to a river lot farm in 1945. Garth attended St. Catherine’s school with his siblings and neighbors.
Times were hard, in a span of 5 years the family farmhouse and barn burnt to the ground, and Garth’s younger sister passed away from Meningitis. These difficult times only strengthened the family to pull together and move forward as a team. Garth worked on the dairy farm growing up, waking up at 4 AM to milk cows.
As a young adult, Garth and his brother Wendell took over the family farm and they grew many different kinds of crops- Wheat, barley, flax, peas, lentils, oats, rye and canola. Garth was a skilled driver of all machinery - backhoe, combine, swather, binder, thrashing machine, and crawler. Garth and Wendell were still actively farming well after they both turned 80. Garth also attended many John Deere shows over the years.
Garth was a lively happy person who enjoyed telling jokes, stories, visiting with many friends & relatives, and was always ready to help anyone out. Many late nights were shared talking, laughing, and playing cards. Garth liked to read a lot of farming literature and loved to read the bible in the early morning. Garth was often outside working in the garden surrounded by his beloved animals. He spent many Saturday nights listing to old time dance party on the radio.
It wasn’t all work for Garth, he enjoyed travelling as well. The family went to New York City for an assembly in 1958, Garth and Wendell were the drivers in a one-ton truck with a home-built camper then off to New Brunswick to visit with many relatives. Garth was offered a free trip to Germany to tour the Claas combine factory he also traveled to many places in Canada and the U.S.
Garth is survived by his brother Wendell (Mayela) MacGregor of Prince Albert, SK; his sisters Donna Wonch of Meadow Lake, SK & Sheila (Ken) Lund of Glenside, SK; his cousin Karen MacGregor; his nieces and nephews Randy, Donny, Charlene, Philip, Earle, Halvor, Christina, Sheree, Darla, Tracy, Tony, Trevor, Glen, Cindy, Blair, Brenda, Gordon, Marlo & their families; as well as many family members across Canada and US.
