Obituary for Bohden Omelian "Bud" Palidwar

It is with great sadness that the family of Bohdan “Bud” Omelian Palidwar announce his peaceful passing with his family by his side after a brief but intense illness at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK on February 19th, 2023. Bud was born on April 6th, 1938, to Peter and Jennie Palidwar. He grew up on the Palidwar Homestead in Honeymoon SK.  After school, Bud attended Business College.

On August 6th, 1960, he married the love of his life, Joanne Marusiak. They lived in Tisdale, SK where they welcomed their oldest son Todd, then on to Regina, SK, and then Saskatoon, SK. In 1973 they returned to make their forever home on the original Palidwar homestead at Honeymoon where Bud grew up. They welcomed their youngest son Troy a few years later.

The farm was where many treasured memories were made! They hosted the very 1st Palidwar Reunion there. Many Christmas’ is complete with hayrides and caroling starting with their “extended family” household and going to all the neighbors along the way. Hay wagon loaded they would return to Bud & Joanne’s to finish off the evening with all the families bringing their leftovers and having a feast.

Bud worked in sales and business most of his life, traveling a lot of it where he made many lifelong friendships along the way. Together, Bud, Joanne, and Todd started Kleen-Bee in Prince Albert and after he “retired” he worked at Walmart and then Commissionaires which he enjoyed very much.

Bud was a member of the ACT/UCT. He enjoyed ice and summer fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, bowling, and playing Canasta which could often turn unruly. Another love of his life was music. He played in a number of bands starting with a stand-up base then Bud purchased the 1st electric bass guitar in Saskatchewan ordered from the Eaton’s catalog, this was something he was very proud of. The last few years Bud really enjoyed going crop-checking with Terry. Most of all, Bud loved his family, “his people”. He held these relationships very near and dear to his heart! Bud burst with pride and joy when he welcomed his only grandchild, a granddaughter Heather! He was so proud of everything in her life, especially her 13 years of Ukrainian dance! He would attend every performance possible, his chest would puff out with pride and he would tear up every time!

3 years ago his mobility decreased and he went to live with his son Todd, Nadine & Heather. For the last 8 months, Bud moved into the North Haven Care Home in Smeaton where he was still the “PR Man”. In the short time he was there he had a huge impact on staff & residents alike. His personality and sense of humor will be missed.

Bud is survived by his son Todd (Nadine) Palidwar of Smeaton SK; his granddaughter Heather Palidwar (Mitchell Flegel) of Saskatoon, SK; his son Troy Palidwar of Borden SK; his sister Nadia Shore and her family Jocelyn, Lisa, and Owen; his sister-in-law Iris (Ralph) Soderberg of Langham SK,  Cheryl (Matthew) Petryk & family, Russell (Jacky) Soderberg & family; his brother-in-law Orest (Lorna) Marusiak of Saskatoon SK; as well as many cousins, and friends.

Bud is predeceased by his wife Joanne Palidwar; his parents Peter & Jennie Palidwar; his In-laws Frank & Anne Marusiak; as well as many dear aunts, uncles, & cousins.

The family would like to thank North Haven Care Home in Smeaton, SK, the doctors & nurses at the Victoria Hospital ER in Prince Albert, SK, STARS, the ICU Dr’s & nurses of Flex 3, Flex 4, and Unit 6200 at RUH in Saskatoon, SK for the care provided to Bud.
