Obituary for John William Alto

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of John William Alto, late of Shellbrook, SK formerly of Hague, SK on Wednesday, August 31st, 2022, at the age of 72 years. John was born to Toivo & Vieno Alto on October 8th, 1949, in Beechy, SK.
John lived in the Rock Point Area. When he was 18 years old, he met the love of his life, Kathy. They were married on June 28th, 1969, at the Birsay United Church. They had 3 children who they raised in Birsay, SK. They made frequent family trips to the city and fishing.
John took pride in being the RM of Coteau’s grader operator. He was loved by the whole community for his efforts and workmanship. Birsay, SK was home until John was sick with West Nile and needed to be closer to the hospital. So, they moved to Hague, SK, which then became their home for the past 13 years.
He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished spending time with his family. John was the most resilient, strong man who never complained about the many illnesses he fought for more than two decades. This resulted in permanent damage to his lungs, which led to his passing at Royal University Hospital with his family by his side.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years Kathy; their children Bill (Susan) Alto, Annette (Rick) Saccucci, & Sam (Sandy) Alto; his 8 grandchildren Austin (Breanna), Travis (Kaybree), Vanessa (Braydon), Brady, Brooklyn, Xander, Cassandra, & Connor; & his 3 great-grandchildren Berklie, Tucker, & Bentley.
John was predeceased by his parents Toivo & Vieno Alto; his siblings Elma Landry, & Roy Alto; his granddaughter Chantel Saccucci; & his in-laws Hazel & Joe Falardeau.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to donate in John’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences can be sent to the family on our website at www.mackenziechapel.ca. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium. Brian & Bev Stobbs, Mark Gyoerick - Mel Curle. 306.763.8488.
