Obituary for J.J Paul Bushey

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of J.J. Paul Robert Bushey, late of Prince Albert, SK on April 21st, 2022, at the age of 79 years. Paul was born on March 12th, 1943, in Big River, SK, and was raised in Prince Albert, SK. where he attended Queen Mary and Riverside schools.
In 1962, Paul enrolled in the Royal Canadian Navy, where he served until 1967. He completed basic entry training at HMCS Cornwallis and he became a financial clerk. In 1963 Paul was transferred to the ship; HMCS Bonaventure, and in 1964 to HMCS Shearwater in Halifax, NS. Paul then transferred to HMCS Bytown in Ottawa, ON.
Paul met Lynn Alain in 1962 and they married in 1965 at the HMCS Shearwater Church.
After being honorably discharged in 1967, Paul and Lynn moved to Edmonton, AB, where he was employed with Poole Construction. In 1979 he moved to Surefire Propane where he purchased a propane truck which he operated for 5 years.
In 1968, their son Todd was born. They joined the Trailer and Travel Club and in 1969 they went camping from May 1st to September long weekend. According to Paul; they considered this camping trip “the best thing they ever did in Edmonton”. In 1983, Paul and Lynn purchased a grocery store in Birch Hills, SK, which they operated until 1995. While in Birch Hills, SK they met Ed & Fern Balone and Floyd & Stella Sorenson who became their lifelong friends. From 1997 until 2010, Paul and Lynn spent their summers employed at Churchill River Trading, a grocery store in Missinipe, SK. owned by Leo & Sherry Jacobsen. In 2013 they moved to the Columbian Center in Prince Albert, SK, where they very much enjoyed their remaining years.
Paul would like to express gratitude to everyone who helped him at the time of Lynn’s passing in 2018. Thank you to all who visited Lynn when she was hospitalized and for the great goodies he received. Thank you, Father Doug Jeffery, Father DJ Vu, Sister Renee, Sister Zelie, Lois Fisher, Shirley Ross, Shirley & Gerry Pelletier, Ed & Fern Balone, Floyd & Stella Sorenson, and all others who helped.
Paul is survived by his grandsons Todd Jr. & Troy; his great-granddaughters Skylar & Ava; his daughter-in-law Darlene and her son Tyris (his daughter Taya); his sister-in-law Dawn Larson; his brothers Dennis & Jim (Syd); his sister Helen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, & friends.
Paul was predeceased by his loving wife Lynn; his son Todd; his step-grandson Branden; his parents; & his in-laws.
