Obituary for Edith Selma Akers

Edith Selma Akers (nee Sundbo), late of Prince Albert, SK passed away on the afternoon of January 5th, 2022, at the age of 95 years. She was born on February 26th, 1926, to Daniel and Petra Sundbo. She was raised on the family farm in Birch Hills, SK with a strong Canadian-Norwegian identity, alongside her brothers Orvel and Selmer. Her family opened Sundbo’s Grocery after moving to Prince Albert, SK in 1947 where Edith loved working. Edith married Jack Akers in 1949 and together they lived in Prince Albert, SK and they had their daughter, Wendy. Edith enjoyed her summers with family in Waskesiu, SK and her winters down south in Mesa, Arizona. In later years, Edith enjoyed spending time with the children at Blooms and Buds in Mont St. Joseph’s care home. She often spent afternoons with the children creating art, reading books, and partaking in ice cream sundae making. The family is thankful to Mont St. Joseph, Victoria Hospital, and Shirley Carrier for kindness and support in Edith’s final days. Edith is survived by her daughter Wendy (Harvey) Pillar; her granddaughters Crystal (Christoph) Meier and Barbara Thompson; her great-grandchildren Haley Pillar (Tyler), Jordyn Pillar, Ashley Pillar, Holly Thompson, Leo Ferguson, Quinn Thompson, and Belle Halcro; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Edith is predeceased by her husband Jack Akers; her parents Daniel (Petra) Sundbo; & her brothers Orvel (Del) and Selmer (Eileen) Sundbo. A funeral service will be held for Edith at MacKenzie Chapel on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022, at 1:30 PM. Condolences can be sent to the family on our website at www.mackenziechapel.ca.
