Obituary for Norman Kosowan

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Norman Kosowan, late of Prince Albert, SK on August 29th, 2021, at the age of 76 years.
Norman was born on August 25th, 1945, to Mary and James (Jim) Kosowan and was raised in the Strong Pine area. He was a bright young lad skipping two grades in school. He met Esther Lima and they were married in 1967. Norman & Esther had one daughter Kimberly Rae who was born in December 1974. There was always much anticipation and talk when he knew that “Kimmy” was coming for a summer visit from Norway. He would talk about each visit for months after.
He devoted many years to look after his mom. He lovingly referred to her as “Nanny” and his eyes would light up when he talked about her baking. His favorites included chocolate cake, molasses & icebox cookies.
Norman worked hard all his life, starting work at the young age of 14 in construction and retired from the Victoria Hospital in 1999 after 33 years of service as a steam engineer.
Norman’s love of cars started at a young age when he purchased his first car before he was even old enough to drive. He then purchased his shiny brand new 1968 Chrysler convertible which he was so proud of and has it to this day. He spent many summers going to car shows looking at all the antiques and sharing stories of his “cruising days” with us.
Norman’s cottage at Candle Lake was his second home and during his younger years spent endless days fishing & boating during the summer and out on his Polaris snowmobile in the winter which included many Sask100 snowmobile rallies.
Norman met Corrine in 1989 and over the years became a big part of our family. He enjoyed farm life and spent many hours driving “Little Johnnie”; our 7700 John Deere combine helping with harvest when he could – it was his favorite thing to do on the farm! In later years he enjoyed going for a ride when he was able and always kept up to date about all things “farming” with Corrine during their daily chats.
Norman loved to reminisce and share countless stories about his youth with family and friends. He looked forward to hearing updates about all the kids and grandkids from travel, skating, hockey, employment, and education. He was proud of all their accomplishments.
Norman is survived by his daughter Kim & extended family Corrine and her children Lloyd (Heather), Connie (Don), Tracey, & Shelley (Marty). His grandchildren Jessica, Tyler (Shelby), Connor (Sarah), Kenna (Steven), Spencer, Tori (Jayce), & Avery. His great-grandchildren Blake, Aria, Braxton, & Eva.
As a family, we were able to celebrate Norman’s 76th birthday last Wednesday at the farm enjoying some good laughs and had his fav…. homemade chocolate cake! The family would like to send a Thank You to Dr. Dale Ardell, Dr. Bree Ardell & the Victoria Hospital Dialysis Unit for their care and attention during his two weekly visits for the last four years, he truly appreciated all that you did for him. He shared stories with us weekly. As Norman always said at the end of every visit “K, we will see ya later.” In keeping with Norman’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Condolences can be sent to the family on our website at www.mackenziechapel.ca. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium – Shellbrook Funeral Home.
