Obituary for Mary Rose Mette

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Rose Mette announce her passing on March 10th, 2021 in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 77 years. Mary was born November 3, 1943, to Mike & Katherine Ackerman in Humboldt, SK. She was the third of five children.
Mary met the love of her life Henry at a dance at Verndale Hall. They were married on November 15th, 1961, they lived in and around Bruno, SK area, where they farmed. They had three children Bev, Duane, and Gail. Later they moved to an acreage just out of Prince Albert, SK, where they had a hobby farm with a few animals. One of those animals included mom's Bantom chickens which she loved to watch roam the yard, as well as their team of ponies that they used for chores, wagon treks & sleigh rides. Mom had a huge garden and was known for her baby dills and pickled turnips. They moved back to Prince Albert when dad retired, making even more new friends. Mom loved family functions. She looked forward to any gatherings we had, as her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She wore the name Big Momma known to her by her great-grandchildren like a badge of honor. She was a real social butterfly, loved practical jokes and a good laugh. She was always up for a singsong, cards, horseshoes, or any kind of game. She loved camping, visiting, & afternoon drives in the country. Mom had a wit like no other. Because of health issues, Mom & Dad moved to the River Breeze Care Home. Mom always bragged about the wonderful food and homemade buns they received there.
Left to remember her are her husband of 59 years Henry Mette, her children Bev Gollan, Duane (LeeAnn) Mette, and Gail (Mike) Lucyshyn. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Raylene (Jarrod) Gabriel, Leah (Jeremy) Mardell, Kera (Andrew) Styles, Catlin Mette, Garret (Kayla) Mette, Justin (Ashley) Lucyshyn, and Cody Lucyshyn. Her 5 great-grandchildren Linken and Hunter Gabriel, Kayne Styles, Arya, and baby Mardell due in April 2021. Her siblings Kaye Gartner-Jasken, Joe (Marilyn) Ackerman, Barbara (Stan) Loziniski, Bernard Ackerman, and their families along with all her many friends. Mary is predeceased by her parents, Mike and Katherine Ackerman, her in-laws Casper and Katie Mette, her son-in-law Scott Gollan and granddaughter Sarah Gollan.
We would like to thank Angie and the girls from River Breeze for the excellent care they provided to Mom. A service will be held at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, with an interment to follow at Deer Park Cemetery. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium – Shellbrook Funeral Home.
