Obituary for Dorothy Georgia Ernst (Kessel)

Dorothy was born on February 22, 1920 at Dodson, Montana to parents: Paul and Flora Kessel; the youngest of six children. She was so tiny at birth that she fit into a shoebox and the oven door was her incubator.
She attended schools in Dodson and Harlem, Montana. Dorothy married William Ernst in October 1939. They resided in Zurich, Montana where Bill worked on the railroad. In 1941 Mom and Dad became parents of twin girls. 1943 saw them move to Watrous, SK, where they started farming. It was there that two more children were born, a son and a daughter. Mom and Dad left Watrous and moved to Naicam in 1947 and continued farming. It was here that their last child was born, a son. Their last move was to Prince Albert, SK, in 1963 where they spent many happy years!
Dorothy began studying the Bible in 1968 and in 1969 was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Mom always said she felt life seemed more meaningful as she learned more about her Creator. She also enjoyed meeting new people and sharing what she learned. Mom faithfully looked after Dad until his passing in 2009. She was at that time a mere 89 years old! Mom then stayed in her home alone for five years until she moved to Kopera’s Care Home. Her last move was to River Breeze Care Home where she enjoyed the friendship of the clients and staff.
Mom always looked forward to gardening, playing the piano, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and dancing (She was a wonderful waltzer). A highlight of each month was when a band would play old time music at River Breeze. Mom was well known for her wonderful homemade soups, cabbage rolls and perogies. So many happy family memories were made while visiting on the patio in the backyard and picnicking at Little Red River Park.
Mom’s life journey of 100 years ended peacefully at the Victoria Hospital, with her children by her side. Dorothy leaves to mourn her passing: her children: Carol (Jim) Horvath, Donna (Ron) Aasen, Gary (Nettie) Ernst, Sharon Ferguson and Ken (Arlene) Ernst; her 13 grandchildren; her 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, also many friends.
