Obituary for Grace Michelle Markowsky

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Grace Markowsky of Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, who left us on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
She was born on January 20, 1971, in Wakaw, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Ralph and Theresa Galambos. She married Dean Markowsky in 1996. After completing her Early Childhood Education program at SIAST, she worked caring for children for many years.
Grace was a devoted and compassionate person who truly loved her family and was loved very much by all of them in return. She doted on her nephews Ryan, Nicholas, Zak, Shawn and Holden, niece Olivia and grand-niece Lindsey Grace. They will always cherish their memories of Auntie Grace!
When Grace was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2015, she dealt with it in the only way she knew how – with strength and a strong sense of purpose. After her surgeries, chemo treatments and eventual remission, she returned to work at the Co-op, a job she truly enjoyed. When the cancer returned in 2018, she focused her energies on fighting again, this time also determined to “check off” some of her bucket list items – a trip to Toronto with mom and dad, camping trips, concerts and special visits for birthdays and family events.
Grace’s interests included playing cards, taking care of her pups, painting, gathering around a campfire for a singsong and enjoying live music. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She fought valiantly and before the time of her passing was in high spirits spreading positive vibes to all she was in contact with.
Grace is preceded in death by her grandparents: George & Verna Galambos and Sebastian & Pauline Hanowski. She is survived by her mom and dad: Theresa and Ralph Galambos; siblings: Daune Richardson (Bruce) and Mark Galambos (Amanda); Dean Markowsky; and her nephews, nieces, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A big thank you to all of the doctors and nurses who have been a positive support for her on her journey these past 4 years.
When you think of Grace, celebrate the good memories you have of her. Remember to live each day to its fullest – to quote Grace, “Love is Everywhere!”
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 11:00AM located at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Birch Hills, SK. Interment will be held in the spring of next year.
