Obituary for Blanca Julia Wilken (Arellanos Palomino)
Blanca Wilken (Arellanos Palomino), our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughters on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert Saskatchewan at the age of 63 years.
Mom was born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico on September 30, 1955 to Ruffo Arellanos Garcia and Teresa Palomino de Arellanos. Throughout her early years she lived in Hermosillo, Sonora and Tecate B.C Sur and as a teenager in Mexico City.
She settled in La Paz, B.C. Sur in 1972 where she gave birth to her two daughters Perla in 1975 and Teresita in 1981. She lived in La Paz until she married Les Wilken on July 10, 1986 and moved to Canada in May 1987 where she made her home in Meath Park and gave birth to John her youngest in 1989.
She later settled in Prince Albert for the remainder of her years.
She worked throughout her life at Bancomer and IMSS as a legal secretary in Mexico working hard to provide for her family. She travelled throughout the Baja giving courses in secretarial work and volunteering with the health district giving out vaccinations in surrounding villages where no healthcare was available. Later at the Northern Lights Casino in Prince Albert.
Mom loved going to our cabin at East Trout Lake, where her love for fishing began. She enjoyed playing cribbage and uno, baking, and cooking delicious meals. Mom was always up for a board game, watching movies as a family, chatting for hours with Veronica and reading her mystery novels. She loved spending as much time as possible with her family. She thoroughly enjoyed her daughters’ visits, holiday suppers and playing with her beloved grandkids. Mom told many stories of growing up in Mexico with her brothers who meant the world to her. Being the second oldest of nine children, she was like a second mom to her younger brothers and a partner in crime to her oldest brother. She cherished the time she spent with her mother and was overjoyed when she came to Canada to spend time with her here.
Mom was always smiling and joking. Her laughter was infectious. She had a wonderful bubbly personality.
Mom was predeceased by her beloved mother Gloria Teresa Palomino de Arellanos; September 5, 2007.
Mom is survived by her father Ruffo Arellanos; her two daughters and one son; Perla Arellanos (David Kack), Teresita Arellanos (Adam Craven), John Wilken. Grandchildren; Christian Arellanos, Justin Thorsteinson, Aleksander Hrabok, Natalia Hrabok, Hillary Vargas Arellanos. Great-grandson Orion Deguire-Arellanos. Aleksander and Natalia’s dad- Brennan Hrabok, who shared a special bond with her. Her brothers in Mexico; Ruffo Arellanos, Juan Arellanos, Carlos Arellanos, Jose Luis Arellanos, Ricardo Arellanos, Martin Arellanos, Antonio Arellanos, Gabriel Arellanos. Her special cousin, more like a sister -Veronica Sanchez Arellanos. Dear aunt Teresita Arellanos García.
And numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family in Mexico.
We would like to extend a very special thanks to the doctors, and nursing staff at the Victoria Hospital who took very good care of her.
Mom wishes to spend eternity in places she loved. In place of a funeral, as was her wish, her ashes will be spread at Waskesiu, East Trout Lake and Mexico with her immediate family at a later date.
