Obituary for Laura Kirkness Mrs

The family of Laura Kirkness are saddened to announce that our Mom passed away April 6, 2019 at Mont St. Joseph Home where she had lived for the passed almost 6 years. Mom was born in Saskatoon, SK to Olai and Lillian Olsen, the only girl in a family of six. As a young girl, her family moved to Mayview where, once the school was built, she got her education. When Mom was young, she loved to play softball and that love never left her, as she got older, she often mentioned that she would still like to play ball. Mom and Dad were married December 5, 1942 and had three children. In 1974 Mom and Dad bought a cabin at Emma Lake, SK, and spent many years enjoying lake life. After Dad passed away in 1993, Mom filled her days volunteering at the Prince Albert Co-operative Health Center. Our Mom was not only a Mom, but also Nana, an auntie, a sister and a friend to many. Those left to mourn her include her son Garth (Linda) and their children Brad, Jeff and Ryan; her daughter Patty (Marcel) and their children Shellie, Cheryl and Doug; and her daughter Wendy (Ross) and their children Bonnie, Lori and Kevin; and her brothers Louie, Bucky and Eddie (Marg) and many nieces and nephews on the Olsen and Kirkness sides of her family. Also left to mourn their Nana are her 17 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Mom was pre-deceased by her husband Louis, her grandson Jon, her brothers Len (Jean) and Lloyd (Mary) and sister-in-law Audrey and by all of Dad’s brothers, sisters and in-laws. Although Mom had Alzheimer’s and didn’t know us anymore, she always had a smile on her face and said, “I love you too” in reply to my, “I love you Mom”. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Mont St. Joseph Home for taking such good care of Mom. There will be a family memorial service at a later date. Donations in memory of Laura may be made to Mont St. Joseph Home at 777 28th St E, Prince Albert, SK S6V 8C2. Or the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan at 301-2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 3X1.
