Obituary for Zena Stacey

Zena Stacey
January 21, 1920 – June 23, 2018

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Zena Stacey (nee Oleksuik) on June 23, 2018 at the age of 98 years. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Gloria (John) Gondek and their three children. Granddaughter Taja and her family, Austin (Jessica) and their daughter, Esbin, and Johnny, granddaughter Jamie (Keith) and family, Amanda and Ethan and grandson David (Trezley) and their daughter, Gracie. Zena was pre-deceased by her parents, Karolka and Phillip Oleksuik, sisters, Frances Adamko, Annie Berkach, Lily Kosowan, Sophie Walgate, brothers John Oleksuik and Harry Oleksuik as well as three infant siblings who passed away shortly after birth. Mom worked hard her entire life and was a very independent woman who taught for a few years before turning to farming. She was also a great advocate for the Farmer's Union. She was well ahead of her time and farmed on her own, during a period when it was extremely uncommon for women to do so. Mom was well known for her strong work ethic. She took great pride in her yard, garden and flowers in Weirdale. She was well known for her generosity and her honesty. Mom had a very kind heart, adopting many stray animals over the years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, taking them to exhibitions in the surrounding small towns, the circus in Prince Albert, the water park, and on many more fun adventures. Mom was a champion card and Bingo player, and it wasn't uncommon for her to stay up late into the night playing "just one more game". Mom, we are going to miss you and we are forever grateful for the memories that we have of our time with you. A special thank you to the caring staff at Mont St. Joseph, where mom spent her last years. Mom requested a private, family celebration of her life. Condolences can be sent to MacKenzie Chapel.
