Ada Edith Oleksyn (Kaufhold)

Ada was born in Milden, Saskatchewan on January 26th, 1931 to Thomas and Edith (nee Richardson) Astels. She and her sister Rose and brother Jim, grew up on the farm and mom shared many stories about her life as a child. Upon graduation from school, she moved to Saskatoon to begin nurses’ training at St. Paul’s Hospital becoming a Registered Nurse. She met Joseph Kaufhold and they were married on February 10th, 1954. They were blessed with five children. When they moved from Saskatoon to Prince Albert in 1962, they purchased a home on two acres in Nordale, where Ada continued to reside until her passing. Ada’s husband, Joseph, died unexpectedly in 1967 leaving Ada to raise their five children alone. She returned to nursing to support her family. In 1976 she met and married John Oleksyn. Ada retired from nursing in 1988. She and John enjoyed travelling and spending time with their grandchildren. Mom spent many years volunteering for the Nordale Community Club, the Food Bank and spent countless hours knitting mitts and toques for many children. Ada passed away on March 6th, 2016.
