Obituary for C. Herbert Zimmer

C. Herbert Zimmer

Herbert Zimmer, late of Prince Albert, passed away peacefully at Victoria Union Hospital in Prince Albert, SK on October 12, 2012, at the age of 79 years. Herb was born on July 3, 1933, in Grayson, SK. He spent his childhood on the family farm, and summers at Echo Lake at the family cabin. He left home at the age of 13 to attend school and receive formal education, graduating at 16. He struck out to begin his adult life. He met the love of his life at the Trianon Ballroom, while attending a dance. A short time later, he made Bonnie Reid his wife. Herb married Bonnie Zimmer (nee Reid) on August 2, 1958. They spent 48 years together before Bonnie’s passing on November 9, 2006. They will now be reunited. Herb enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes, hunting, fishing, gardening, playing guitar, singing, sunsets on his sundeck, and spending time with family telling stories. He was a private person but surrounded himself with the people who loved him.

Herb was predeceased by his parents: Adam and Sophia Zimmer and his loving wife Bonnie Zimmer (nee Reid). Herb is survived by his sisters and brothers: Olivia, Eugene, David and Elaine; his daughter Brenda of Prince Albert, his granddaughter Rebeccah (Shawn) Stavely of Prince Albert, his great-grandchildren Brennah, Marah, Lukas and Kingston Stavely, his grandson Jon Zimmer (Melissa Palibroda) of Prince Albert, his great-granddaughter Esme Marli Zimmer, his granddaughter Katelin Lacy Dagg of Prince Albert; his son Brent of Prince Albert, and his son Craig of Prince Albert.

Herb would often say ‘If I was any better, I’d be dangerous’. He is in a better place now, and is now truly dangerous. He will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and all around great guy.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at 1:00 pm, at MacKenzie Chapel, Prince Albert, with Margaret Ferchuk officiating. Arrangements in care of Northern Funeral Service, MacKenzie Chapel. Brian and Bev Stobbs, Funeral Directors. 306.763.8488 www.northernfuneralservice.ca
