Clara Innes
1918 - 2013
Clara was born March 14, 1918 in Camper, MB and passed away on July 18, 2013 in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 95 years. She was the daughter of Fred and Magdelena Krauchi. The family moved from Camper, MB to Deloraine, MB in 1925. Clara went to school there until the 30’s when times were really tough due to the depression. She often told us she read the encyclopedia because she loved to read and had read all the books in the school. She had to go to work after grade 8. She is survived by her son: Richard (Rita) Innes, Calgary, AB; her son: Gerald (Robbie) Innes of Calgary, AB; her daughter: Lorna (Lyle) Fennell, Red Deer, AB and her son: William Innes, Prince Albert, SK; her 4 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband: Jim in 1986 and her grandson: Guy Innes in 1979. Clara met Jim in Deloraine, MB and married him in 1937. The family moved to Saskatchewan for work in the 1940’s. Clara and Jim were very active members of Associated Canadian Travelers in P.A. Our dad travelled Monday to Friday away from home; so we were fortunate as children that we had a strong and compassionate mother. Clara supplemented the family income by using raw wool to knit and sell Siwash Sweaters. Family camping trips were a highlight on the weekends. Often there were a couple of extra kids along and away we would go hoping to catch some pickerel. The car would be bouncing on the way to our destinations but full of very tired, often sun burned folks on the way home. Mom loved to fish! Clara loved to curl with the ladies in the afternoon. She had to walk many long blocks in the cold winter to the rink and back, but that did not deter her. When she discovered cross country skiing she was thrilled. She skied for many years well into her 70’s. Mom was an avid gardener, she always believed in having a large vegetable garden which supplemented her source of food for us all. Her beautiful yard was always admired by all as she loved her flowers. She was very creative with making flower arrangements. The library in P.A. was her main source of reading material. She was an avid reader all her life. When Clara’s family was grown she decided to get her driver’s license and she was excited to get her own car. She went to work and enjoyed working in many grocery stores in P.A. She really missed working when she retired as she had made many friends. She started quilting and loved working with fabric and colours. The family is fortunate to have many lovely quilts to share. She was a member of a ladies bridge group and loved to tell us all of her interesting games. Clara’s family meant everything to her and she did her best for each of us. The family would like to thank to Dr. Oleksinski, the staff at the Victoria Hospital and the staff at Herb Bassett Home. If friends desire memorial donations may be made to a charitable organization of your choice. At Clara’s request the funeral will be a private family affair.
