Obituary for Mary Basaraba

Mary Basaraba
January 13, 1921 – August 5, 2017
With great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Basaraba on August 5, 2017, in Prince Albert, SK. She was born on January 13, 1921 to Wasyl and Sophie Badowsky in Krydor, SK. They moved to MacDowall where she met and married Alex Basaraba on May 28, 1950. They lived in Flin Flon, MacDowall, Weirdale, and Prince Albert. She was President of St. George’s U.C.W.L for 19 years and very involved with activities within the church. Gardening and flowers were very important to her and she won prizes for both. They built the family cabin at Noble’s Point Candle Lake in 1972 which is still in the family today. She enjoyed travelling to Mexico, Hawaii, Florida, and the Southern States before her health started to fail. Rotary House at Pineview Terrace was where she spent her last years and we thank the staff for such good care. She is survived by her husband: Alex; her daughter: Sharon (Bob) Pocha; her grandson: Chris (Bonnie) Pocha; her great-granddaughters: Hannah, Brittany, and Spencer. She was predeceased by her son: Dale in 2012; her grandson: Ryan in 2015; her sisters: Nettie (Anton) Zarubiak, and Annie (Bill) Fitzpatrick; her brothers: John (Josephine), Andy (Kay), Wally (Shirley), and Paul. Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 10, 2017 – 7:00 pm at MacKenzie Chapel, 130 9th St E, Prince Albert. Funeral Service will be held at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 753 – 14th St W, Prince Albert, SK on Friday, August 11, 2017 – 10:00 am with Father Vasyl Kravchuk as Celebrant. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to Pineview Terrace, Recreation Fund, 1200 A – 24 St W, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 5T4. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium. Brian and Bev Stobbs, Tracy-Lynn Switzer, Funeral Directors. 306.763.8488.
